“Released on 21/09/09 The underground hardcore scene of the mid-late Eighties was UK punk rock’s last significant creative gasp. Emerging from the wreckage of the anarcho punk scene spawned by the likes of Crass and Conflict, it took its influences from the studs ‘n’ leather punk bands of the early Eighties such as Discharge and GBH, and also the nascent American hardcore movement and the emerging metal/punk crossover scene. Filter all of this through some through fiercely DIY aesthetics and you had a potent movement that spawned such seminal acts as Napalm Death, ENT, The Stupids and Heresy. With the backing of John Peel and an unwavering work ethic, these bands, and the labels that launched them (including Earache and Peaceville - both now widely regarded as having some of the finest metal rosters in the world), pushed musical boundaries into new and previously unexplored avenues of extremity, helping to shape the alternative music scene we know and love today.

Ian Glasper is the critically acclaimed author of two previous books for Cherry Red, 2004’s ‘Burning Britain’ and 2006’s ‘The Day The Country Died’, and ‘Trapped In A Scene is the long-awaited closing volume of his celebrated trilogy on the UK punk scene of the Eighties.

Here is an interview with LIVING HELL frontman, Craig Mack, taken from Its The Limit Issue #2. Check it out after the jump for lots of beef history, and make sure to check out his new blog at http://itsthemack.blogspot.com!

IT’S THE LIMIT fanzine #2

Fear Tomorrow/Craig Mack/via AIM

Tell me about Fear Tomorrow? Obviously you are influenced by Integrity, but what other bands can we hear in your music?

CM: I don’t know. We all listen to a lot of different music. I’m big into late 80’s early 90’s NYHC and BHC. I am a huge Cro-mags, Straight Ahead fan. Youth of Today, Bad Brains, Raw Deal, Forced Reality, SSD, and Slap Shot. I listen to a lot of rap, and folk music as well. I’m pretty fucking diverse.

What bands were you in prior to Fear Tomorrow?

CM: I sang for Redemption in 1993-94, Follow Through from 95-98, Played Bass in Death Threat and Time Will Tell. I’m currently doing vocals for Wide Awake.

I have there was some bad blood when Follow Through split up. Do you want to clear things up at all?

CM: Not really- I don’t really give a fuck about those guys. Let’s see where they are e in 10 years.

Well obviously after the Earth Crisis show last week people are talking, I think it’s safe to say that there is BAD blood.

CM: Look, I’m a grown ass man, and I do grown ass things. I Yoko’d Follow Through because some of those guys had delusions of grandeur. I mean, I put half of them in the game, and they didn’t like being reminded of that when they stepped out of line. Then you have faggots like Pat from Fastbreak feeding their ego’s trying to get them to go against me. That Right Brigade demo was all about me, every song. I got confirmation on that.

Right, I don’t know the ins and outs of everything that’s why I’m asking.

CM: Well the Right Brigade demo, I mean these songs are about beating me up, and me stepping out of line. Get the fuck out of here. I mean the demo isn’t about ME it’s a FANTASY about me. I mean come on now man, who is going to believe you motherfuckers could do anything to me? That’s why I went at them on stage at the In My Eyes gig- if they are so hard, and want to write music about fighting and leading a life a crime, well then show me. I was at that show with 10-15 killers, SDS dudes. I told them to sit tight no matter what happened. So they should be thankful- they could have gotten it much worse.

Pat Break and you used to be tight, though, right?

CM: Sure, Pat and I grew up going to shows together. He didn’t like Follow Through getting bigger than his band. I understand that, but he took it out personally on me. It’s our past that got him a pass. He wrote 120 bucks about me, he is one jealous man. I’ll let karma catch up to him.

What about Jesse?

CM: That’s a special case. I mean I love Jesse, he is my brother. When he got tossed from his house, I took him into my apartment. My mother was in jail and we lived in that squat with no electricity, phone or anything for a year. Jesse is a good guy, he just doesn’t like confrontation. He isn’t completely innocent, but he is one guy that I hope I patch things up with. When everything went down, I walked into the living room and he was sleeping on my couch- I woke him up with a baseball bat in my hand. I couldn’t bring myself to hit him- it would be like spanking my little brother. So I smashed his record collection….

WHAT?!!?

CM: I mean, it was his most prized possession. The Mack giveth, the Mack taketh away. Plus Standhard Records is now mine. I took the label too.

Ha. Well I’m glad I pried a bit. I hope you don’t mind.

Cm: I don’t mind talking about it, but I just don’t like giving them press, or wasting time thinking about them. At that Earth Crisis show, a bunch of the Boston converts came up to me afterwards and were trying to act hard –Lemoine and the likes- I just told them to shut the fuck up or do something. Obviously they did nothing. Ant-P still hasn’t talked to me because I did it during IME set, I do feel bad about that. Shout out to Sweet Pete and In My Eyes- one of my favorite bands going right now.

Ok, well moving on- I’ve heard a million other crazy stories about you growing up. Are any of them true? I’m talking axes and severed ears.

CM: HA, well something’s I would rather not go on the record talking about- statute of limitations and all. I did nail a human ear to someone’s door once with a note attached that read “I hear every word you say”. I got the idea from Dwid. You would be amazed about the fear that can strike into a clique of kids.

Where did you get the ear?

CM: Next question.

The Hatchet? I heard it was like a Shining situation.

CM: No comment, seriously.

What bands are you into right now.

CM: Death Threat, Hatebreed, In My Eyes, Floorpunch, Blood for Blood- tons of up and coming CT bands.

Any tours planned?

CM: We are doing some gigs with Pale Creation, come check it out.

Craig- thanks for the interview, anything closing comments?

CM: New split coming out with Integrity on ECER this summer. www.holyterror.com/feartomorrow. PREPARE.

From the Printers Site:

What is Lustre Coating?
Water-based lustre coating is an eco-friendly formula that provides a sheen that visibly enhances your prints and provides superior protection. The coating protects against fingerprints, UV rays, and typical over-spraying found in home/office environments. Lustre coating provides for a richer, enhanced sheen on prints of every size.

Kodak Professional Supra Endura VC Digital Paper (aka Traditional E-Surface Paper) is by far our most popular paper. Accurate color, realistic saturation, excellent neutral flesh reproduction and brighter colors are just a few of the attributes to describe E-Surface paper.

You will see excellent skin-tone reproduction, as well as brighter blues, cyans, purples, and reds.

With this paper don’t worry about prints fading. The standard archival value is 100 years in home display and 200 years in dark storage.
